SKI  NORTHSTAR AT TAHOE

Northstar

Northstar is a ski resort area that is part of the Lake Tahoe region, located between the north shore of the lake and the town of Truckee. It is home to one of the top rated western ski resorts, with 63 downhill runs covering over 2400 acres and with 2,200 feet of vertical drop.

Snowboarders enjoy half-pipes, berms and jumps and cross-country skiers have 65 kilometers of groomed trails.
In the summertime, the ski runs become bike trails, and other summertime activities in the area include horseback riding, rock climbing, golf, swimming, boating and fly fishing and rafting on the spectacular Truckee River.

The new Village at Northstar offers a "ski-in, ski-out" village with luxurious condos, outdoor ice rink, fire pits, shops and cafes.

Northstar is just five miles to Lake Tahoe town and its casinos, live entertainment, world-class dining and nightlife. The small mountain village of Truckee is just 7 miles away and offers quaint shops and art galleries, restaurants, cafes and historical spots.

You face southwest in this artist's image. Lake Tahoe is to the south and appears in the upper left.

The mountain is forested from top to bottom. The front side, stretching from the Northstar Village base at the lower left to the top of Mt. Pluto in the upper center, is mostly beginner and intermediate territory. There is limited front-side expert terrain at the very top and along the ridge - note the black diamonds in the image. However, the back side (to the right of Mt. Pluto in the image below) has a series of parallel runs with great moguls and 2000 vertical feet of fall-line skiing. While the front is groomed regularly, the groomers roll the backside runs in rotation so you can pick the size and type of bumps you like! As a bonus, the back side's high-volume lift never gets crowded!

Northstar has added new trails and a detachable lift on Lookout Mountain at the center of this map. Intermediate skiers can handle these runs when they're groomed. In our experience, Lookout has zero lift lines even on crowded days.
