A famous small town with 10,000 inhabitants at the foot of the magnificent Mont Blanc, just 75 km from Geneva. Justifying its international reputation, Chamonix offers its visitors a large choice of entertainment and amusements; restaurants, bars, discotheques, cinemas, casino, indoor swimming-pools, riding, walking, and many shops.
Chamonix, together with the other resorts in the valley, is a wintersport centre of superlatives.
Of the six ski areas in the Chamonix valley, Le Brevent and La Flégère are lift-linked, and the remaining four—Les Grands Montets, Le Tour, Les Houches and the off-piste skiing accessed from L’ Aiguille du Midi are linked only by free ski bus. For reasons of local political reasons Les Houches is not available on the main Cham'Ski lift pass and is consequently often overlooked—a shame because it offers some good tree-lined skiing. Also offered are 50 km of cross country skiing, numerous ski hikes, toboggan run, ice skating, curling.
