Sölden
Sölden has invested massively in new lifts to link its home slopes, which suit intermediates and adventurous beginners best, with snow sure runs on the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers. This is very good news - the Tiefenbach, in particular, is a serious 2km long slope - enough to establish this quite impressive resort on the international market at last. With its high altitude and 100% snow guarantee, Solden is now one of Austria's most popular ski resorts.
Sölden lies in the Otztal at an altitude of 1380m above sea level (4500 ft). A tree filled valley with traditional Tyrolean-style buildings, the Otztal begins at the Innsbruck/St Anton highway and ends at the ski resort of Obergurgl. One of the Tyrol's larger towns, Sölden attracts a mixed clientele, mostly across Europe, bent on serious skiing and serious partying.
