4 day semi-escorted tour

On this 4-day bike & barge holiday you experience the highlights of the Dutch spring flowers, such as tulips, hyacinths and daffodils.

Leaving from Amsterdam you sail by barge to Spaarndam, the village of Hans Brinker. The next day you cycle to the world famous flower garden 'Keukenhof'.

Thousands of flowers in an enormous variety of colour, shape and scent will welcome you. Cycling through the bulb fields makes for a spectacular ride to Leiden, birthplace of the world famous painter Rembrandt. By bike you continue through the rural Green Heart of Holland. The last day you rise early and leave by bike to visit the world’s biggest flower auction in Aalsmeer. After this spectacular visit you cycle back to the barge that will take you back to the centre of Amsterdam.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY
Day 1: Individual arrival in Amsterdam (10 km)

After embarkation in Amsterdam, you’ll be sailing to Spaarndam, the picturesque village of Hans Brinker. From here there is a short cycling trip to Haarlem. In the evening you your tour leader takes you for a nice city walk through the old centre.

 

Day 2: Lisse - Leiden (15 km)

Today you sail to Lisse where you disemabark and cycle to the famous flower garden ‘Keukenhof’ for a visit. Here you see about 6 million tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and other flowers. After your visit, the cycle tour crosses the blossoming bulb fields and ends in Leiden.

 

Day 3: Leiden (25 km)

In the morning you will make a walking tour through Leiden, the birthplace of Rembrandt, and the oldest university town of the Netherlands. Later you will cycle through fine Dutch landscapes in the so-called Green Heart of Holland to Uithoorn. During this cycle trip you will visit a traditional cheese farm, and a miller, who will tell you about the history and working of his windmill.

 

Day 4: Leiden - Amsterdam (15 km)

 

You rise early, because you visit the world’s biggest flower auction in Aalsmeer. After the visit you get back on board and sail back to Amsterdam.

DEPARTURE DATES:

This 4 day tour starts every Saturday and Tuesday from March 31st to May 15th.

NOTE: A "Comfort" version of this tour is available every Saturday and Tuesday from April 3rd to May 15th.  A more luxurious barge is used, which has two lower level beds.

Rate:

EASY: Paved cycle paths and quiet backstreets; very few hills, suitable for experienced and novice cyclists, as well as families.

Airport / Transfers

Flights are in/out of Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. There are trains from the terminal into Central Station every 20 minutes, at a cost of approx. Euro 8.00. The barges are docked right beside the Central Station.
