8 day Independent tour
A classic cycling route in Switzerland. Although the Aare Route starts in Gletsch in a high alpine region, the river has carved a bicycle-friendly way through the rock. No climbs are worth mentioning. You cycle through the cantons Berner Oberland and Swiss Mittel-Land, across the Three Lakes Country and into the southern Jura region. Enjoy charming provincial Switzerland, native farms and unspoilt nature.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY
Day 1: Individual arrival in Meiringen

Individual transfer to Meiringen.
Day 2: Meiringen - Interlaken (30 km)

A short stage to warm up along the traffic-free south bank of Lake Brienzersee. Enough time remains for a visit of Aare gorge, a refreshing visit of Giessbach falls, and a break at Iseltwald. Lake Brienzersee is your attractive companion throughout the day. The water is shimmering in all kinds of green, depending on the weather conditions.
Day 3: Interlaken - Thun (30 km)

Take your time exploring Interlaken this morning as Thun is only a halfday distance away. On the tour you will enjoy an overwhelming panorama with snow covered peaks, deep blue waters and dark brown wooden chalets.
| Day 4: Thun - Bern (30 km) |

The snow covered peaks are receding as you cycle with an undisturbed view over the plains of the Aare Valley. Fertile fields bearing rich crops herald the advent of Swiss Mittel Land. The well signposted Aare-Route brings you safely into the centre of Switzerland's political capital, Bern.
Day 5: Bern - Biel (50 km)

Leaving Bern you are greeted by Lake Wohlensee. Now a constant mix of either natural paradise or power plants begin. Vegetable country Grosses Moos and then Lake Bielersee dominate the scenery.
Day 6: Biel - Solothurn (35 km)

Between Biel and Büren the river Aare was “corrected” – but then it meanders through fertile coun-try to Solothurn. One special experience is the view of the storks of Altreu circling in the blue sky. Soon the spires of Solothurn’s cathedral greet from far away.
Day 7: Solothurn - Aarau (55 km)
Continue your tour and cycle to the medieval town of Wangen. Through lovely river meadows between Berken, Aarwangen and Wolfwil a picturesque part of the river follows, then you cycle through pedestrian zones into the old town centres of Olten and Aarau.
Day 8: Journey home or extension of stay

After breakfast your cycling tour comes to an end and you may begin your journey home. We would also be more than happy to extend your stay in Europe.
