A relaxing tour through the second largest vineyard area of Germany! Beautiful villages with unique ambience, charming vineyard estates, hospitality and the excellent wines of Pfalz are the ingredients of unforgettable days. On this fascinating cycle tour the 2000 year old history of the region waits to be explored, e.g. the dome of Speyer, as well as secret German wine-capital Neustadt. A number of routes can be assembled according to your own pleasure. The tour is very well suited for families with children as well as for the experienced tour-cyclist.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY

Day 1: Individual arrival in Neustadt/Weinstrasse

Tour information and distribution of bicycles in the secret wine-capital of Germany, a lovely medieval old town, the market square with intimidating chapter church and the town hall.

Day 2: Loop tour Neustadt - Bad Duerkheim (20-40 km)
|

|
You cycle through vineyards and wine-grower towns to Bad Dürkheim (park, gradient building, largest wine-barrel of the world). Through lovely little villages of Northern Wine Street; Wachenheim, Deidesheim and Neustadt-Haardt you return, optional by regional train.

Day 3: Loop tour Bad Bergzabern - Wissembourg (40-55 km)
|

By train you go to Bad Bergzabern. Pass through wine-gate in Schweigen to Alsace / Wissembourg (famous parish church St. Peter and Paul, idyllic city centre). A little loop through beautiful towns in Alsace before you cycle back through Bienwald forest to Bad Bergzabern and return by train to Neustadt.

| Day 4: Loop tour Neustadt - Speyer (30-55 km) |

Along brook Speyerbach you cycle on small roads into famous Speyer (dome, history museum of Pfalz, medieval centre). Through tobacco plantations around Harthausen you return to Neustadt. The easier option of this tour returns by train.

Day 5: Freinsheim - Bad Duerkheim (35-55 km)
|

By train you reach Freinsheim (medieval city wall, historic centre). Here you set out on a tour through vineyards to Grünstadt and Neuleiningen (medieval fortress-village). Before you reach Bad Dürkheim visit a Roman wine-growing estate with wine-press. Return to Neustadt by train or cycle.

Day 6: Loop tour Neustadt - Landau (30-55 km)

Today you explore idyllic Southern Wine Street. St. Martin, Edenkoben and Kirrweiler are the most beautiful wine-growing towns. Traces of Bavarian past you find with the ancient pleasure-castle Ludwigshöhe and French fortress Landau. Return to Neustadt by train or cycle.

Day 7: Individual departure

After breakfast your cycling tour comes to an end and you may begin your journey home. We would also be more than happy to extend your stay in Europe.

Hotel Neustadt 3***: Comfortable hotel, centrally located and only a few minutes walk from the historic centre. It is easily reached from the rail station and by car (car park). There are recreational facilities including a sauna, solarium and fitness studio in the hotel.

EASY: Paved cycle paths and quiet country lanes along the River Lech with a total altitude drop of over 5000 ft!. So its mostly downhill with with a few short hilly stretches; suitable for everyone.

The nearest international airport is Frankfurt. Regular rail transfers are available from the terminal to Neustadt (1 1/2 hours). These cost approx. $55.00 one way.
