A TASTE OF BURGUNDY
Who wouldn’t like to taste the Burgundy way of life? The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Burgundy are: delicious wines, impressive castles, rolling landscapes, old monasteries and a lot more. Starting in the capital of Burgundy, Dijon, this cycling holiday follows the Canal of Burgundy and the river Saône until you reach the charming provincial town of Tournus. The scenery you cycle through changes from small villages and low rolling hills to lively and attractive historical towns like Beaune and Chalon sur Saône. Forget the fast lane as you travel by hotel barge along the Saône river.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY

Day 1: Individual arrival in Dijon
|

Arrival in the afternoon in Dijon, the beautiful capital of Burgundy. You embark and will meet the crew and your tour leader.
|
Day 2: Dijon (25 km)
|

|
In the morning you make a short cycle ride in the northwest Dijon region. Halfway through the afternoon you’ll get the chance to discover Dijon with our special city walk.

Day 3: Dijon - Longecourt-en-Plaine (35 km)
|

The day starts with a small sailing trip to and through the first two locks in the Burgundy Canal. Your trip ends in the village of Longecourt en Plaine.

| Day 4: Longecourt-en-Plaine - St Jean-de-Losnes (35 km) |

Across small roads and forestries you cycle across some pretty villages to the pretty town of Auxonne at the river Saône. Later you follow the river to St. Jean de Losne where the Burgundy Canal joins the river Saône.

Day 5: Beaune - Verdun (50 km)
|

Today you will visit the beautiful fortified town of Beaune, also known for its many tastefull wines (Cote d’Or). Your tour leader will take you on a stroll through the town and you will have time to visit for example the church ‘Collegiale Notre-Dame’ or the museum of the Burgundy wines. In the small town of Verdun sur les Doubs the barge will await you.

Day 6: Gercy (35 km)

In the morning you cycle through the forestry of Gergy and then follow the Canal du Centre to Chalon sur Saône. In this port town, located at the Saône river and the Canal du Centre, you will have the afternoon off. You can do some window shopping, visit a museum or relax on one of the many terrases.

Day 7: Chalon - Tournus (55 km)

You leave Chalon and hit an old railway track, now a cycle path. In Buxy you visit a winery in an old tower. The trip continues by descending to the river Saône and then ends in the town of Tournus. Here you find the beautiful St. Philibert church, which is certainly worth a visit. The abbey dating from the 10th century has a beautiful architecture and is one of the oldest in France.

MS Summerjazz: Sailing the Summerjazz may be described with just one word: hospitality. The skipper and his wife will do their utmost to make their guests feel at home during their holiday. The ship has 9 cabins, each with private facilities.

EASY: Flat contour along the river bank and quiet country trails. A few low hills are encountered. You cycle mostly on dedicated cycle paths and some quiet country roads. Suitable for novices, families and experienced cyclists alike.

The nearest airport is Dijon however it is quite small. There are infrequent shuttles into the city core.
You may also take the TGV express train from Paris (2 hours), at a cost of $65 one way. Another good option is Basel/Mulhouse Airport on the Swiss border.
