Starting out from the foot of the Pfänder Mountain in Bregenz you will continue along the most popular cycle route in Europe along the Lake. Small medieval villages and the old diocesan towns of Constance and Basel complement the impressive landscape of the Lake Constance region, nestled between the foothills of the Black Forest and the Jura mountains. Experience the young Rhine with the famous Rheinfall waterfall and the highlight of the cultural metropolis of Basel.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY
|
Day 1: Bregenz - Individual Arrival
|

|
Take the chance to take a walk through the city of Bregenz, which was founded in the Roman period. The capital city of the Austrian province of Vorarlberg is famous for its annual drama festival on the largest lake theatre in the world. The cable car will bring you and your bicycle to the top of the Pfänder for panoramic views and a great cycle down.

Day 2: Bregenz - Rhine-Delta - Arbon (35 km)

Close to Hard you will cross the Rhine, which is descending from the Swiss Alps. The delta mouth of the Rhine is an important nature reserve. Already on Swiss soil, in Altenrhein, you find the Hundertwasser-Hall, the last work of the famous artist. Along the lakeshore you will continue to the old seaport Rorschach and further to the beautifully situated town Arbon.

Day 3: Arbon - Constance (30 km)

Today you will cycle through the Swiss canton of Thurgau, which is also known as “Cider India” due to its many orchards and its relative remoteness. Soon you will reach its clandestine capital, the medieval town Constance, which was the location for the church council and invites you to explore the historical Old Town.

| Day 4: Constance - Schaffhausen (35 km) |

Your tour leads you away from Konstanz through picturesque Swiss fishing villages. Your first stop should be in Gottlieben where you can admire one of the most beautiful village squares in Switzerland. You cross over the Rhein at Stein am Rhein with its houses from the middle ages. Pass multiple bridges and crossings between Germany and Switzerland before reaching the cantonal capital Schaffhausen with the fort of Munot.
Overnight in Schaffhausen.

Day 5: Schaffhausen - Waldshut (60 km)

The first highlight of today is the famous Rheinfall waterfall, which you will be able to get a close look at on a boat trip.
The Rheinau monastery is located in a bend of the river, which was once a gathering place for mercenaries from all over Europe. You will pass through Kaiserstuhl, the smallest town in Switzerland, and in Bad Zurzach one of the most modern salt-water pools in Europe awaits. In Koblenz, where the oldest iron railway bridge is located, you may cross over the Rhine and reach the well kept, former Further-Austrian town of Waldshut.
Overnight stay in Waldshut.

Day 6: Waldshut - Rheinfelden (50 km)

The double town of Laufenburg is worth a visit today, which has even won a prize for its tidiness and well kept buildings. There was also once a waterfall here but it was blown up with dynamite in the 19th century. In Bad Säckingen the longest, covered, wooden bridge in Europe and a strange refuse museum. You will then continue along the northern bank of the river to Beuggen Castle, the former seat of the order of knights, and on to Rheinfelden, whose historical centre is located on the Swiss side of the river.
Overnight stay in Rheinfelden.

| Day 7: Rorschach/Arbon - Constance/Kreuzlingen (27-36 km) |

Today’s route is short so that you have enough time to visit the Roman ruins in Kaiseraugst and the first city tour of the trip. Basel, as a diocesan town, has a rich history and an impressive walled medieval old-town. It is the shopping and trading centre in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland and has lots of very interesting museums.
Overnight stay in Basel.

Day 8: Basel - Journey home or extension of stay
|
|
After breakfast you may return by train to Constance or return home. We would be more than happy to extend your stay in Basel or in Europe.
