8 day Independent tour

Nearly 1400 years ago the Celtic monk, St Cuthbert, began preaching Christianity at Melrose, the start of this walk. His travels lead him across southern Scotland and Northern England to end on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, now famous for its illustrated Celtic Bible, a major work of devotional art. It is on this island, with its castle and abbey remains, and linked to the mainland by a tidal causeway, that our walk ends.

This is a walk through the splendid and varied scenery of the Scottish Borders, the Cheviot Hills and the River Tweed. It is also a walk with long and strong historical associations, following in part the Roman road known as Dere Street, passing medieval abbeys at Dryburgh and Jedburgh and bringing to mind the Viking raids on Lindisfarne Abbey, so vulnerable on its island location. Along the way you will be comfortably accommodated in villages tucked away under the hills and ancient border towns.

Our Safari starts and finishes in the colourful town of Westport. We set off on our cycle around Lough Conn where fisherman cast off and patiently wait for the days catch.
We head to the coast and the Ceide Fields. A unique archeological site of world importance where the remains of stone filled walls, houses and megalithic tombs are preserved beneath a blanket of peat over several square miles. As a field structure of over five and a half millennia, it is the oldest known field system in the world.
We continue our journey cycling along the Atlantic Coast to Ireland’s largest island Achill, where we are basing ourselves for two days. Achill is unspoilt by the havoc of the modern day and many of its beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status by the European Union.
Dramatic views of towering cliffs, majestic mountains and open moorland - nature at is most beautiful, all immortalized by the paintings of Paul Henry.

9 day East to West Independent tour

This cross country tour follows the Trans Swiss Trail #3, beginning at Lake Constance in the northeasht, and finishing in Geneva at the far southest corner of Switzerland. A combination of hiking trails, Postbus, Swiss Rail, and mountain rack railways make for a great collection of transportation to see you safely across this beautiful country.

Highlights are following the Route of St James through the foothills of the Alps, including the Benedictine Abbey of Einsiedeln, a favourite stop on the pilgrims tour; plus the towns of Zug, Lucerne, and Geneva. And at all times, the majestic swiss Alps are towering over you.
